Morning Consult: Spanberger Approval at 54%

In a surprise poll, Morning Consult has Spanberger's approval ratings at 54%.

Morning Consult — a left-leaning polling outfit — released the toplines of a new poll showing Virginia Governor Abigail Spanberger (D-VA) with a 54% approval rating, with only 37% disapproving of her performance to date.

These numbers contradict earlier polling by the VCU Wilder Center which shows Spanberger upside down with a 44% approval rating, with 47% of Virginians disapproving in the aftermath of a budget standoff and a hotly contested gerrymandering referendum which was ultimately struck down as unconstitutional by the Supreme Court of Virginia.

Meanwhile, Virginia’s two U.S. Senators are faring equally well with Spanberger, with approval ratings for Senator Tim Kaine (D-VA) at 52% and Senator Mark Warner (D-VA) at 56%.  Warner is running for re-election this year against retired Major General Bert Mizusawa, who captured the Republican nomination in a contested primary in early August.

Virginia’s elections are on Tuesday, November 3rd.   Early voting begins on September 18th, 2026.  The deadline for mail-in ballot applications is October 23rd, 2026.  For more information, check with the Virginia Department of Elections.
