Gas prices in Virginia continued their steady rise this week, with an average of $4.15 per gallon compared to $4.09 last week. Though up, it’s not as sharp a jump as witnessed late last week when the price of a gallon of regular gas jumped 16 cents.
On the back of this week’s six-cent increase, an average 14 gallon fill up will now cost consumers $58.10.
While prices across the state are up, Virginia’s average is still 33 cents lower than the national average, which stands at $4.48.
Typically, gas prices begin to fall after Labor Day as demand falls. That hasn’t happened thus far, mostly because Brent crude oil prices continue to hover above the $100 mark – as of writing, a barrel is $103.
While prices are high, concerns of supply disruptions are easing according to Trading Economics. Saudi Arabia has stated it can restore around half of the damaged East-West pipeline’s capacity, which was shut down following a drone attack on September 10-11. Full operations are expected in about six weeks.
